Physical assessment of free roaming dogs from Campo Magro – Paraná, Brazil

There are three categories of free roaming dogs: those with an owner, community dogs and abandoned dogs. These free-roaming vulnerable to animal cruelty can cause traffic accidents affect human health through transmission zoonoses bite injuries. The physical ownership status these is unknown in most cities. objective this study was report findings evaluation determine the municipality Campo Magro, Paraná, Brazil. Whilst surveying stay dog populations estimate numbers, observational assessment interviews passersby about animals were conducted. Of 240 counted, 46.7% (112/240) classified as “dog 29.2% (70/240) “community dog” 24.2% (58/240) “abandoned dog”; 63.8% (153/240) male, 22.9% (35/153) neutered. Most (75.4%; 181/240) had ideal body score, but lower condition scores found (p <0.05). Abandoned significantly more skin nodules (p<0.05) higher prevalence pruritus observed (p<0.05). results demonstrate need for a population management program which includes strategies reproductive control, care promotion responsible guardianship.
